You all do realize that the tax would actually be 18%, not 9%, right? 9% when you earn it and 9% when you spend it means it really costing you 18%. Plus, here in MO, another 8.25% state/local tax when you spend it. Total tax to buy anything = 26.25%.

Yes, the "national" nightly news definately overdid it! Our mid-west "national" news ended up being ONLY east coast local news.

Ya know, if there weren't so many people below the poverty level there would be more paying taxes. Create jobs, create tax payers.... There is a huge inequity in this country.
